Most people think advance directives begin with healthcare.
I believe they begin with humanity.
The word advance simply means before.
The word directive simply means guidance or instruction.
Long before any medical decisions need to be made, each of us is already writing directives through the way we live. We discover what comforts us, who we trust, what gives our lives meaning, where we belong, and what we hope others understand about us.
Those discoveries become some of our most important instructions.
My role is not simply to help people complete documents.
It is to help them discover what those documents should say.
Through conversation, reflection, and curiosity, we explore the values, relationships, and experiences that make each person uniquely human. Together we create guidance that can support families, friends, and healthcare professionals if life changes unexpectedly.
Because planning isn’t only about dying.
It’s about living thoughtfully enough that, if tomorrow looks different than today, the people who care for you won’t have to guess what mattered most.
Every conversation is an opportunity to prepare, not just for healthcare decisions, but for the human experience of change itself.
