One Green Heron who had discovered the Puddle and decided it was worth returning to. I had learned where to look for it, down along the water or tucked into the branches where a small bird can disappear surprisingly well.
Then tonight I looked again.
There was one standing near the water.
And another sitting in the tree.
For all the watching I have done, the Puddle still manages to remind me that what I know is often only what I have been able to see so far.
Sometimes there is more there than we realize.
We just haven’t looked in the right place at the right moment yet.
And apparently, the Green Heron has company.
