We have welcomed quite a few visitors to the Puddle this year. Some I watch for every morning. Some I photograph far too many times. Some have been given names despite having absolutely no idea that they are now part of an ongoing neighborhood story.
And then there are visitors like this one.
I believe this is a yellow garden spider, and she seems perfectly content with her chosen spot on the patio wall. I have no intention of petting her, relocating her, introducing myself properly, or attempting to form the sort of one-sided friendship I seem to have developed with several of the Puddle’s other residents.
She may stay.
I would simply prefer that she eventually decide somewhere else sounds lovely.
There is probably a lesson somewhere in that. Not everything that enters our space needs to become ours to manage. Sometimes we can notice something, respect what it is, give it room, and allow it to continue on its way without interference.
So today the Puddle has another visitor.
She is welcome.
