We sometimes worry that when life changes, the things we once loved will no longer find us. A new home, a new routine, a new way of seeing the world can feel like leaving something behind.
Then, one ordinary evening, a familiar dove lands on the fence.
It doesn’t arrive because we called it. It doesn’t know what the patio means to us or how much has changed. It simply discovers that this place still offers what it needs, quiet, safety, and a moment to rest.
Maybe our lives are like that too.
As we change, not everything from our past disappears. Some things return, not because we held onto them tightly, but because the qualities that welcomed them were never lost.
The patio has brought new neighbors into view. Tonight, an old neighbor reminded us that the story isn’t only about discovering what is new.
Sometimes it is about realizing that what once mattered still recognizes home.
